WARMINSTER Lions President Ros Harrison was left impressed and amazed with the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust’s service to vulnerable victims of crime after a morning out on the road with Operative Mick Leighfield.
Her trip came after the Lions donated £500 to the work of the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust by its Good Causes Committee. She said: “I really wanted to know more about the charity because, in common with many of us, we've seen the vans around but never really understood exactly what their role is.”
She was introduced to the charity’s work by former police officer Mick and then went out with him on a call. “I think it's just such a wonderful thing the charity does and Mick was very good,” said Ros.
“He explained to me about how when it was set up it was initially meant to be something that was going to be national. You realise how lucky we are that we've got one, I was amazed by the skill the operatives have to be able to put all those security measures in.”
She said she was taken aback by the care and attention given to the person they called on. “I was very impressed as well with the way Mick dealt with the person that we went to, he was so sweet and so patient and helpful,” she said.
“I thought to myself that had I been on the receiving end of it, I would have been so reassured. It really is amazing to watch and there was no sense of being in a hurry.”
Trust Director Jennie Shaw thanked the Lions for their contribution. “We are deeply grateful to the Warminster Lions for this donation, every pound really does make a huge difference.
“We love being able to show donors what we do and we’d be very happy to do the same for any Lions groups, or anyone else for that matter.”
